Welcome everyone,

Those of you who genuinely want to engage in a conversation about how to improve the human condition, specifically that of the stepmothers out there, you are welcome to comment. Everyone else, your comments will be deleted as follows:

A Healthy Stepmother will not delete your comments based on perspective or point-of-view. We will only delete comments that:

  • are abusive, off-topic, or use excessive foul language
  • contain racist, sexist, homophobic, or any other slurs
  • are solicitations and/or advertising for personal blogs and websites
  • use thread spamming (you’ve posted the same comment elsewhere on the site).
  • are posted with the explicit intention of provoking

Otherwise, bring on your thoughtful, insightful comments on what has worked for you, additional information on that topic, and feedback about how the blog post has helped you gain a sense of yourself.

All the best as you travel and navigate the trail through the stepmother wilderness.

  1. I just stumbled on your blog. I’ve been married for 1 year and am a new stepmother to 2 boys, ages 12 and 16, in the Portland metro. It’s been an overwhelming year. Thank you for your blog.

    • Kristine, Welcome! It can be overwhelming, but it will even out. Time and attention to yourself. Be sure to search the term Self-Soothing on the blog. You’ll find about 14 posts related to how to calm yourself and keep your sense of you amidst the “stuff.” Best to you!

  2. Hi Kim, I am also new to your blog, but am devouring them from 2009 onward. I am 41 and newly moved in with my partner and his two daughters, 11 and 13. I don’t have any children of my own and had spent about 7 years single before meeting this wonderful man. Like Kristine, I also feel overwhelmed and a bit shell-shocked. So grateful for the way you write, and share. It speaks to my heart. I am also in the Portland, OR metro area and if anyone else in the area reads this and is looking for a single-to-stepmom friend to chat with, please reply. Thanks Kim!

    • Hello Marianne, welcome here! I hope you’ll join in the conversation and comment here and there as the blog speaks to you. There are many others in your shoes. I’ll send you a private message.

  3. Thank you Kim! Do you know of any stepmom groups meeting in the Portland, OR area…or resources for finding such? I would really love to meet some other single-to-stepmom women to share with. Thanks again, this blog has been such a lifesaver for me!
